Close-up on Marty's face as he drives the mini-van with
great concentration. Fear is in his eyes.
ASHLEY
I am so proud of you, Marty.
MARTY
Really?
PULL BACK to reveal GUS, an 80 pound full-grown
goldendoodle in the back seat between the two kids.
Savannah (AKA "Sonny" around Family), a pre-teen, very
articulate, very smart girl, and Walt, her bushy headed
little brother, and bane of her existence.
ASHLEY
You've never really fallen in love
with a dog have you?
ANGLE ON Ashley's lap as she holds and strokes, LUKE, the
"pick of the litter" pup from this litter. They purchased
both dogs.
MARTY
No, honestly, I haven't.
ASHLEY
There will not be a time in your
life that you'll regret this, I
promise...
SAVANNAH & WALT
Yeah Daddy, you'll see.
2 INT - LIVING ROOM - FUTURE 2
The doodles, Gus and Luke, chewing at the laundry room
wall, eating through the dry-wall.

ASHLEY (CONT'D)
You have no idea how these dogs
will make you feel, Marty.
4 INT - LIVING ROOM - FUTURE 4
ANGLE ON Marty napping on the couch. Full grown, 80 pound,
Luke leaps from floor and lands on Marty's mid-section.
Marty jack-knifes off the couch and rolls off the couch and
out of frame with a thud.
1b INT - MINI-VAN - PRESENT 1b
ASHLEY
Their loyalty, their protection,
they will be like guardian angels.
6 INT - BEDROOM - FUTURE 6
Gus sitting at the foot of the bed. ANGLE ON clock showing
5:45 a.m. Gus unleashes a single abrupt loud bark. Marty
leaps up from bed.
1c INT - MINI-VAN - PRESENT 1c
SAVANNAH
Yeah, Dad, you will love them. We
can teach them tricks and stuff.
8 EXT - BACKYARD - FUTURE 8
Marty and Gus outside. Marty throws a ball. Gus looks
direction of the throw and then calmly sits on haunches,
yawns, and then lays on his elbows and looks up at Marty
while his snout touches the ground. Gus blinks a few times
while staring at Marty.
1d INT - MINI-VAN - PRESENT 1d
WALT
And, Dad, since we got'd Gus when
he was older, we won't have to
teach him to potty outside.
10 INT - BEDROOM - FUTURE 10
Gus is seen facing away from camera with legs spread and in
the piddle position. He looks back over his shoulder and
stares Marty down as we hear the puddle filling the
hardwood floor.
PULL BACK reveal Marty in room with Gus in disbelief of the
amount of liquid.
WALT
Daddy, why doesn't he lift his leg?
Marty looking at Walt for one beat, looks out bedroom door
and calls out.
MARTY
Ashley!
11 INT - LIVING ROOM - FUTURE 11
Ashley holding Gus from behind from under his front legs as
he stands on his hind legs. Seen from behind, Gus is
urinating up over the height of his head like a fountain.
Ashley attempts to get him to move toward the door as if
waltzing with him.
SAVANNAH & WALT
Daddy, Daddy, come quick, Mommy's
doing the Doodle Fountain again.
12 INT - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT - Christmas Time 12
Ashley and Marty posing for picture in front of the
Christmas tree. Gus walks over and lifts his leg on the
Christmas Tree.
SAVANNAH & WALT
Daddy, look, he lifted his leg!

MARTY
Won't have to potty train eh?

And I read that they are not picky
on what they eat, which will make
the dog-food cheaper.

Gus on ground, crunches into a CD-Rom. Particles of the CD
Rom spray everywhere as crunching sounds are heard. Gus
tears into CD-Rom outer case and paper. Picture of Sting
can been seen as the mangling begins.
15 INT - KITCHEN 15
Luke fully swoops a sock in his mouth, swallows, coughs,
then burps.
16 INT - LIVING ROOM 16
Marty on couch watching television. ANGLE TO Gus trotting
by happily with tail wagging with red panties hanging out
of mouth. Marty jumps up remembering-
DISSOLVE TO:
17 INT - RESTAURANT - PAST 17
Valentine's Day dinner last year. Ashley opens her present.
Nice red lingerie. She holds up the same red panties.
SMASH CUT TO:
18 EXT - BACKYARD - DAY 18
Gus chomping and swallowing panties as Marty chases him.
SMASH CUT TO:
18a EXT - BACKYARD - DUSK 18a
Marty looking out back-door at Gus in yard struggling to do
number 2.
SMASH CUT TO:
18b EXT - BACKYARD - MINUTES LATER 18b
Marty hustling to get fresh dropping left by Gus. Puts
rubber gloves on and picks up by the edge of the red
panties and carries toward Deck.
SMASH CUT TO:
18c EXT - BACKYARD - MORNING 18c
Marty seen with power washer standing on deck shooting
water onto the deck. ANGLE ON Red Panties in the shape of a
crinkled up banana on deck being hit with power washer.
Ashley looking on holding trash can. Marty presents and
offers 'cleaned' panties. Ashley motions towards trash can.
MARTY
Exile? But they were a gift?
ASHLEY
Sorry, those have made the journey.

ASHLEY
And Marty, they say that if you buy
the right dog, that THAT dog will
be able to understand and actually
empathize with you. You know? Feel
what you are feeling.
20 INT - BATHROOM - FUTURE 20
Gus trots to Marty while Marty is sitting on the toilet.
Gus and Marty exchange face to face snuggles and Marty
scratches GUS under the ears.
MARTY
Hmm...I might like that, for sure.
